What is binky the polar bear?

Binky the polar bear is a real-life polar bear who currently resides at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born in 1994 and arrived at the Alaska Zoo in 1996.

Binky is a popular attraction at the zoo and has become somewhat of a celebrity polar bear. He is known for his playful personality and his love of swimming in his pool. He is also known for his impressive size, weighing in at over 1000 pounds.

Binky has had a somewhat tumultuous life, as he was previously owned by a private individual who kept him in less-than-ideal conditions. However, since coming to the Alaska Zoo, he has been well-cared for and has thrived.

In 2018, Binky became the subject of controversy when PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) filed a complaint against the Alaska Zoo, alleging that Binky was being kept in an inadequate enclosure. The complaint garnered national media attention and sparked a debate about the treatment of animals in captivity. Ultimately, however, the Alaska Zoo was cleared of any wrongdoing, and Binky remains at the zoo today.
